Diverse Coalition Comes Together to Support Certificate of Need Repeal in W.Va.
Charleston, W. Va.—The Cardinal Institute for West Virginia joins today with a coalition of health care providers and policy leaders to express support for the full repeal of certificate of need laws in West Virginia.
Organizations included in this coalition letter:
- The Cardinal Institute for West Virginia Policy
- Americans for Prosperity – West Virginia
- The West Virginia Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives
- Midwives Alliance of West Virginia
- West Virginia Nurses Association
“This coalition represents a group of organizations with diverse missions and stakeholders, yet we are united in our belief that certificate of need (CON) laws are harmful to West Virginians,” said Garrett Ballengee, executive director of the Cardinal Institute for WV Policy. “It is quite clear that CON laws exist to keep competition at bay, stifle innovation, and drive away entrepreneurs who wish to provide a service in their communities. CON laws have outlived their purpose and are only a stain on West Virginia’s healthcare system.”
