Cardinal Institute Celebrates Passage of Hope Scholarship Program By West Virginia State Legislature
Charleston, WV – The Cardinal Institute for West Virginia Policy applauds the West Virginia State Legislature for creating the Hope Scholarship Program in West Virginia – expanding educational freedom and opportunity for the children of the Mountain State. The bill will now go to Governor Justice’s desk for his signature.
If signed into law, the Hope Scholarship program will be the most expansive and inclusive school choice program in the nation, providing $4600 to each student who chooses to participate. Those eligible for the program include students currently enrolled in public schools or of matriculation age. The Hope Scholarship will allow them to craft their own educational journey. Families could use the funds to pay for tuition fees, curriculum, special needs therapy, transportation, and so much more.
“Simply put, today is a proud day for West Virginia and will provide hope for generations of children in our state,” said Garrett Ballengee, Executive Director of the Cardinal Institute for WV Policy. “As the bill makes its way to Gov. Justice’s desk, it’s important to realize that the Hope Scholarship will give education freedom to every child regardless of a family’s income or ZIP code. West Virginia has finally set a gold standard for other states to emulate should those states desire to pursue an education system focused on children first. Bold solutions and big ideas have finally come to West Virginia.”
